Leaving on a jet plane - but first, here's some new music!

I had a great time in Toronto these last few weeks, catching up with family, friends and colleagues, writing some wicked tunes and making some great new connections! Now it's back to Calgary to buckle down and hammer out a plan for the next couple of months. There's so much I want to get done, so here's to some new material for your ears and a fall itinerary that sees me go all over the the country to meet all you amazing music lovers!

A song I lent my voice to - called "Waiting" - is now out on iTunes in both a country mix (http://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/waiting-country-ac-mix/id376382941?i=376382944) and a more A/C mix (http://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/waiting/id376260455?i=376260465), and a video for it is in the final production stages! While I didn't write the song, I'm so proud of the man who did, Pete Haley, and the team that came together to bring it to life, including Dave Barker, Tony Daniels, Antionio Di Cicco! The song is all for the troops and their families, and the words will speak for themselves!

My catalogue is getting really big, and I'm stoked to lay some of these tracks down and have my fans hear them! I've got hard rock, alternative, pop, country, electro, industrial... you name it, I've got it! Like I've said in interviews, good music is good music, regardless of genre. It comes down to how the melody, words, beat and energy move you and inspire you, and it's impossible to confine that to just one genre. So as an artist, I feel it's impossible to make just one kind of music! To quote Can-Rock legends Sloan: "If it feels good, do it/Even if you shouldn't/Don't let people mess you around!"

Rocker Basia Lyjak Heads West with Calgary Motor Coach!

Rocker Basia Lyjak Heads West with Calgary Motor Coach!

TORONTO, ON / CALGARY, AB. - May 5, 2010 - Rock n' roll singer/songwriter Basia Lyjak is expanding her project to Canada's west coast with Calgary Motor Coach! With their charter and entertainment coaches already transporting top acts through major North American tours, Calgary Motor Coach are now sponsoring Basia in her journey to and beyond the next level of her career!

With a huge fan base growing and flourishing in Ontario already, Basia knows the next step is to take on other markets, and what better place than Western Canada, where rock n' roll reigns right next to country! In setting up a second base in Calgary, Basia will collaborate with tons of musicians, songwriters and producers to add to her already large catalogue of unreleased songs and gear towards her next recordings! Beyond recording, with the help of Calgary Motor Coach and their newly named bus "Basia," a tour will also be built for the coming months - stay tuned!

Also in the pipeline is the release of a track called "Waiting," which Basia did not write, but lent her voice to. Written by Peter Haley about his cousin - who came back from deployment in Afghanistan with Lou Gehrig's disease - the song explores the emotions of a wife and mother wondering if her husband will ever come home. While not necessarily about the politics of war or military, the song touches on the very real experiences of any soldier from any country, away from home and family. "Waiting," arranged and produced by Dave Barker and Tony Daniels, also has an accompanying video featuring Basia in the post-production stages. Shot by Antonio Di Cicco (Thunderlight Productions) and currently being edited by Tim Reid, the project is set to see the light of day soon, with proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warriors Charity.

Basia is thrilled to see her support team grow as it has in the last few months, and with the addition of Calgary Motor Coach to that crew, she's set to revolutionize the way an indie artist pursues their craft and business in an increasingly uncertain and murky recording industry!

Contact: Emy@BasiaLyjak.com

TORONTO, ON – May 21, 2009 – Rock n’ roll singer-songwriter Basia Lyjak has a busy summer ahead, kicking off with her third invitation to play Toronto’s North By Northeast music and film festival! The Hard Rock Café are inviting Basia to play their central Yonge and Dundas Square location (where NXNE headquarters for the week are located) for the third time in a year. After a hugely successful NXNE show there last year and a headlining slot at their annual and international PINKTOBER breast cancer awareness benefit, Basia can’t wait to play the venue again!

Having just released a video at Canadian Music Week for her single “Don’t Talk,” co-written with Spring Awakening’s Kyle Riabko, Basia is gearing up to release her next single, “What It Feels Like,” at NXNE, a song also co-written with Kyle and recorded and produced by Brian Moncarz (.moneen.) at his Rattlebox Studios, co-owned by Tool producer David Bottrill.

Stay up to date with Basia’s YouTube channel (www.YouTube.com/BasiaLyjak), where current interviews, live footage, behind the scenes clips and more are regularly posted! Up now is www.Conceptual.tv’s reality trailer, showcasing a day in her life from cleaning toilets through to interviews, photo shoots and her CMW showcase. Coming soon: interviews with The Naked News and a performance on www.ToroMagazine.com! UCS’s March09 interview with Basia is up too: www.unchartedsounds.com/video.html

“Some singers were born with the rock'n'roll gene and some were not. The minute Toronto's Basia Lyjak opens her mouth, you know which group she falls into. Lyjak has the kind of voice that would be out of place anywhere but centre stage in front of screaming guitars, big bad bass lines, and pounding drums. Her music is a full-frontal assault on the sense, and she gives no quarter.”- Doug Gallant, CM Magazine

You’ve seen Basia Lyjak on SUN TV’s Canoe Live, OMNI1, Rogers Entertainment and TwentySomethingTV.com; you’ve heard her all over the internet and on Q107 for her Lee Aaron opening slot and on Y108’s “Get Hammered.” You’ve read about her in Canadian Musician Magazine, The Toronto Sun, Metro News, Mississauga News, Uncharted Sounds, Fazer, Spill Magazine, Muzik Movement Newz and more, more, more! So join her and her wicked players Ron Bechard (Edwin, Sin Dealer), Daz (Sound of Fury) Dale Harrison (The Headstones) and multi-instrumentalist Pat Kelly (Paris Black Band) at NXNE, because people have taken notice, and in 2009 it will be impossible to turn away from Basia Lyjak or get her songs out of your head!

Basia's Canadian Musician Magazine article!

Canadian Musician Magazine
September/October 2008
Unsigned Artist Showcase, page 78

Some singers were born with the rock'n'roll gene and some were not. The minute Toronto's Basia Lyjak opens her mouth, you know which group she falls into. Lyjak has the kind of voice that would be out of place anywhere but centre stage in front of screaming guitars, big bad bass lines, and pounding drums. Her music is a full-frontal assault on the sense, and she gives no quarter.

You would expect nothing less of her after scanning the list of people she cites as having influenced her musical development. Included in that list are such heavy hitters as Led Zeppelin, Guns'n' Roses, Motley Crue, Hole and Nirvana. I had an Outer Limits moment when I saw both Motley Crue and Hole on the list because my first thought after hearing Lyjak rip into "Don't Talk" was that she'd somehow been possessed by Vince Neil and Courtney Love.

There's a lot of attitude in the music Lyjak writes, but she's not putting anything out there she can't back up, as evidenced by her recent nomination for Best Song at the 2008 Toronto Independent Music Awards for the aforementioned single "Don't Talk." Her current EP, Writings on the Wall, bears witness to an artist mature beyond her years. The vocal prowess Lyjak displays on that EP and the strength of the original material she's penned point to a long run for her. Her efforts have already been recognized with five International Online Music Awards, a segment on OMNI's Na Luzie TV show, and an opening slot for Lee Aaron.

TORONTO, ON. – September 1st, 2008 — Basia Lyjak is forcefully knockin' on fame's door, and tell you what -- it's about to open on up! Basia's a natural, and when you hear her you'll understand exactly what we mean! Fans of No Doubt, Queens of the Stone Age, Veruca Salt and other gritty acts will totally dig her powerful vocals and catchy, guitar-driven compositions.”MyxerTones.com

It’s been a busy summer for Basia Lyjak, and she’s capping it off with a bang and ringing in the fall season with a profile in Canadian Musician Magazine, an internationally distributed industry publication available at Long & McQuade’s, among many other outlets. CM’s “Unsigned Artist Showcase” featuring Basia runs both in print and online for the September/October 2008 issue, coming out at the end of this week! To boot, StereoFame.com will showcase Basia’s profile on their site on September 4th – check out this awesome site where audiophiles and industry alike converge to support talented independent musicians!

“There are only a few women that have rocked our world throughout the ages… Janis Joplin, Etta James, Heart, and The Pretenders… but guess what? There's a new chick that rocks my socks off, and her name is Basia Lyjak – and she kicked my ass! She's got the whole package. I think she will be a force in rock n’ roll, and once you hear her, you won’t forget her… I haven’t!” Mark Hudson (Musician/songwriter/producer; Livin’ on the Edge, Aerosmith)

MyxerTones.com also featured Basia on their homepage recently, dubbing her ringtone of “Stuttering” the Pick of the Day for August 23rd! The site contacted BasiaLyjak.com personally to share the amazing results: 4800 downloads during the 24-hours she was on the main page! That’s roughly 1 download every 18 seconds!

Basia and the band have been on a mini hiatus from gigging in order to write and record some new tunes, so be ready to hear them in the fall! But don’t think you won’t be seeing Basia during that time, because with loads of interviews and articles coming out soon and an official YouTube channel set up for acoustic performances of new tracks, Basia is busy as ever and can’t wait to share it all with fans.

With shows alongside the likes of April Wine, Lee Aaron, and The Mudmen, and at venues like The Phoenix, The Hard Rock for NXNE, Nathan Phillips Square, and ElMocambo in the past year, it’s safe to say that you’re not going to want to miss what’s coming next! Stay tuned!

This is the year of the indie artist, and every industry seminar, workshop and music festival has been telling us just that. With her growing fan base, Basia’s been proving them right all along!

“Come on Canada, listen to Basia Lyjak! You don’t know what you’re missing!” – Jon Long, Long & McQuade Musical Instruments

Basia Nominated for TIMAs & Tattoo Rock Parlour Coming Up!

Basia Nominated for TIMAs & Tattoo Rock Parlour Coming Up!
Web link: http://www.basialyjak.com/july2808updaterelease.html

Basia Lyjak's latest single, "Don't Talk" is earning her fans from around the world, but fans and industry alike at home know a good thing when they hear it as well, because the track has been nominated for "Best Song" at the 2008 Toronto Independent Music Awards (TIMAs)! The awards ceremony takes place this Thursday, July 31st at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto.

Given how busy Basia has been this summer with shows, press and interviews, it's no surprise that she's double-booked the night of July 31st: she's nominated for one of the most prestigious awards of the TIMAs the same night that she's set to tear up the stage at Tattoo Rock Parlour for a Rock The Foundation breast cancer benefit show (With The Red Light Riot, Who's Army Band and The Stars Here).

Never one to shy away from a full plate, Basia is unfazed, planning to make the most of both events, as she did this past weekend with two huge shows in a row. On July 25th, Basia gave a packed crowd of avid Lee Aaron fans the petite-chick-with-huge-pipes rock show they've been dying to see, warming them up for the amazing and lovely former "Metal Queen" herself! Basia signed almost as many autographs as Lee did that night!

Mere hours later at Youth Day 2008 at Nathan Phillips Square/City Hall on July 26th, Basia's short but sweet set got the crowd going and left them wanting more! The wonderful event raised money and awareness for the TY Card program, an after school and weekend activities program for youth 6-18 that earns them participation points that can be exchanged for material goods from KPYO.net's Corporate Champions (McDonald's, Coca Cola, Starbucks and more), or saved up and used for a FULL post-secondary education! The day was a huge success and exposed Basia Lyjak to fans that might not otherwise have had access to her music.

If you haven't had a chance to see Basia and the guys live this summer at Healey's NXNE/The Hard Rock, Rock n' Roll Heaven or Nathan Phillips Square, the Tattoo Rock Parlour gig this Thursday, July 31st may be your last chance for a while! Basia and the band are heading to Candy Hammer Studios to write and record in the coming months -- fans have been begging for new tunes, and they're on their way! Contact info [at] basialyjak [dot] com for tickets to this Rock The Foundation event; they're only $10 and proceeds benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

SEE YOU THERE!
